Rail Safety Week 2025: Staying Safe Around Tracks

Posted on

The Town of Edson has officially proclaimed September 15–21, 2025 as Rail Safety Week, joining over 390 communities across Canada in support of CN and Operation Lifesaver’s national safety initiative.

Rail Safety Week is dedicated to raising awareness about the dangers of trespassing on railway property and the importance of obeying signs and signals at crossings. In 2024, Canada saw 261 railway crossing and trespassing incidents, resulting in 68 avoidable fatalities and 58 serious injuries.

These numbers are a sobering reminder of why rail safety matters. By staying alert, obeying traffic laws, and respecting railway rights-of-way, we can help prevent tragedies and keep our community safe.

Throughout the week, CN will be sharing safety messaging in collaboration with municipalities, law enforcement, and other partners. The Town of Edson is proud to support this initiative and encourages residents to take a moment to learn more about rail safety.

Let’s work together to keep Edson safe—on the roads, near the tracks, and in our neighbourhoods.
