RCMP CAPTURE Program

Posted on
Help the Edson RCMP resolve crime within the community. The Edson Detachment is now a part of the CAPTURE Program. The program is being rolled out throughout rural Alberta starting with communities impacted by wildfire.

CAPTURE is Community Assisted Policing Through Use of Recorded Evidence.

What is CAPTURE?

CAPTURE allows members of the public to register their home or business security cameras with the RCMP with the goal of reducing the amount of time it would take an investigator to locate potential video evidence. Investigators will be able to view a map of registered security cameras in order to determine whether any are in the vicinity of a crime scene.

Investigators can then contact the registered owner of the camera and arrange with them to obtain a copy of the video. Investigators may also request the registrant upload a portion of their video to the CAPTURE website so they can view and assess it for evidentiary value before making arrangements to collect it in-person.

CAPTURE has already been in place for several years in a number of communities, including Red Deer, Sylvan Lake, and Chestermere.

Some Edson RCMP members already have access to the registry and are ready to use it as required. We just need members of the public and local businesses to register. Knowing where cameras are in the community will save investigators time should a crime take place in a neighbourhood.

Please share and help spread awareness of this program.
