Eligibility Requirements
To work the municipal election, you must:
- Be at least 18 years old (unless applying for the Greeter role).
- Be a resident of Alberta and eligible to work in Canada.
- Are you a youth (16-18 years old) looking to get involved? You can still apply to work the election as a Greeter.
Persons Ineligible to Work:
- Candidates running in the election.
- Official agents and scrutineers of candidates.
- Individuals engaged in a role that creates a conflict of interest.
Available Shifts
- Election day (October 20): morning and afternoon shifts available for various roles
- Election night: Ballot Counters needed starting at 7:00 p.m.
- Advance vote dates: October 4 and October 18
Job Descriptions
- Responsible for the operation of the Voting Station, including setup and take down.
- Supervision of election workers at a designated voting station.
- Responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the ballots, supplies and equipment at a designated voting station.
- Direct scrutineers, official agents and Candidates on the proper procedures in the voting station.
- Completion of forms related to voting.
- Oversee and participate in the ballot count, ensuring the accuracy of the count and completion of the Ballot Account.
- Ensure security and delivery of the ballot boxes and other election materials as directed by the Returning Officer.
- Ensure the confidentiality and integrity of the voting process is upheld at all times.
- Assist with the setup and closing of the voting station.
- Issue ballots and provide voting instructions to electors.
- Ensure the secrecy and security of the vote.
- Monitor the ballot box and voter flow.
- Participate in the ballot count, as directed by the PDRO.
- Ensure the confidentiality and integrity of the voting process is upheld at all times.
- Helps with setting up and closing the voting station
- Greets electors and reminds them to have their ID available
- Answers elector’s questions
- Directs elector through voting location
- Recognizes when an elector may need extra assistance and notifies the PDRO
- Ensure the confidentiality and integrity of the voting process is upheld at all times.
- Assist voters with the registration process.
- Greet electors and verify eligibility to vote.
- Assist in setting up and take down of the voting station.
- Maintaining the ballots, ballot box and voting compartment.
- Assist electors with completion of their Statement of Elector Eligibility.
- Monitor and update the Permanent Electors Register as electors register.
- On election night, or the day(s) immediately following the election, as required: counts the ballots, completes the related forms and process communicates the results to the Returning Officer.
- Help with setting up and closing the counting stations.
- A Stand-by Worker is ready to fill in if another election worker cancels at the last minute. They must be ready to go to the assigned location on short notice. This includes working the either Advance Vote or Election Day.
