Council Notes - September 17, 2024

Edson Lions Club. Members of the Edson Lions Club presented a proposal to upgrade the Edson Lions Park Campground by adding full-service campsites, including water, power, and sewer hookups. The presentation included an ask for support from the Town to complete these upgrades.

Solid Waste & Recycling Bylaw Moves Forward. Council has approved significant updates to its waste management services with the approval of the new Solid Waste & Recycling Bylaw No. 2298. Residents can now request an additional waste (black) cart for a fee of $7.50 per month, while an extra organics (green) cart is available at no additional charge.

New Trail for 6th Avenue. Council has reallocated surplus funds to design a new multi-use trail along 6th Avenue, extending from 40th Street to Gomuwka Drive. This trail will connect Vision Park to the Edson Health Care Centre, enhancing active transportation options and improving overall connectivity in the area.

Supporting Future Municipal Talent. Administration has been authorized to apply for the 2025 Municipal Internship Program. If successful, this grant will partially fund an Administrative Intern for an 18-month term.

Long-Term Policing Plan. Council has approved the Edson RCMP Multi-Year Financial Plan for 2025 to 2030, which outlines the financial framework for local policing services. The level of service provided by the Edson RCMP will also undergo further review during the 2025 budget discussions.

Next meetings – The next Town Council Meeting is scheduled for October 1, 2024, at 7:00 pm, in Council Chambers.
