A Fire BAN has been issued for the Town of Edson.

Based on the current and predicted weather conditions, and to align with the current bans in the forest area surrounding the community, The Town of Edson is instituting a full fire ban, effective May 29, 2025, at 2:00 PM. While there is some rain in the forecast, current fire conditions are high and Provincial fire crews are dealing with multiple events.

No fire permits will be issued, and all existing fire permits will be suspended until conditions improve.

The fire ban includes the following but is not limited to:

  • All outdoor wood fires, including wood campfires on public lands, wood campfires on private land and provincial campgrounds. All open burning,
  • Backyard fire pits,
  • Fireworks and exploding targets,
  • Charcoal briquettes.

Allowed for use with caution:

  • Propane and natural gas-powered appliances,
  • Open flame oil devices (turkey deep fryers, tiki torches, etc.)
  • Indoor wood fires contained within a device with a chimney and spark arrestor.

*All appliances must be CSA approved and used per manufacturer’s standards

The fire ban will remain in effect until conditions improve.

Updates on fire advisories/bans will be posted to www.edson.ca.

During local fire restrictions and fire bans, the Edson Landfill does NOT ACCEPT most wood or combustible items. Once the fire restrictions are lifted, normal operations will resume and a notice will go out to the public.

With the current Spring Clean Up and free landfill days this week, construction materials (renovation material, fence boards, etc.) will still be accepted. Trees and branches will NOT be accepted at this time.
