Pool Challenges

Posted on

We know how important the pool is to our community, and we want to keep you informed about some upcoming changes and ongoing challenges.

The pool at the Edson & District Leisure Centre is facing ongoing challenges beyond the disruptions related to YCE construction activity. The aquatics staff at the Edson & District Leisure Centre are preparing for a brief maintenance closure next week to complete important repair work during a brief maintenance closure from Sunday, June 15 to Wednesday, June 18.  This closure is necessary to replace a cracked flange and ensure the continued safe operation of the facility.  All active memberships will be paused during this closure, so users won’t lose any time on their passes.

Beyond this scheduled closure, the aquatics facility continues to experience challenges due to aging mechanical systems that are beyond their expected life cycle. These outdated systems may require frequent reactive maintenance and constant adjustments just to maintain basic functionality. Unfortunately, this may result in further unplanned service interruptions. We understand how frustrating this can be and are doing everything we can to minimize disruptions and sustain day-to-day operations.

These ongoing issues highlight the importance of the YCE Multiplex Project, which includes a full replacement of the aquatics facility. A new, modern pool will provide reliable infrastructure that better meets the needs of our growing community and reduces the risk of service disruptions.

As we all eagerly await the opening of the new pool, staff continue to work diligently to manage the demands of the aging mechanical systems in the current facility. While these systems occasionally require reactive maintenance, and barring any unforeseen catastrophic failures, our aquatics team is doing everything feasible to minimize disruptions and ensure services to the community continue to run as smoothly as possible.

The Edson & District Leisure Centre remains dedicated to:

  • Maintaining a safe, functional facility.
  • Minimizing downtime despite aging infrastructure.
  • Delivering as much aquatics programming as possible.

We sincerely appreciate your patience and support as we work through these challenges and move toward a long-term solution that will benefit the entire community.
