June is Recreation and Parks Month

Posted on

Throughout June, we're highlighting some of the amazing facilities, green spaces, and recreational opportunities available across the Town of Edson. Whether you're cooling off at the spray park, exploring our trails, or enjoying a game at one of our outdoor courts, there’s something for everyone right here at home.

Follow us on social media throughout the month as we shine a spotlight on individual parks, facilities, and features that make Edson a great place to live and play. Be sure to like, share, and tag us in your own adventures around town!

Edson & District Leisure Centre (EDLC) The heart of recreation in Edson, the EDLC features twin arenas, an indoor swimming pool, a concession, and a hospitality room. From swimming and skating to drop-in fitness programs, the EDLC brings our community together year-round.

Walking Trails Our paved and unpaved trail network winds through parks and green spaces, offering a relaxing way to stay active and enjoy nature. Many trails are connected to community hubs, making them perfect for daily use.

Kinsmen Spray Park Located at 7 Avenue and 48 Street, this interactive spray park is a favourite summer spot. Open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with water activation via the pillars, it features picnic areas, sunshades, loungers, fire pits, and outdoor fitness equipment. It’s a perfect full-day destination for families.

Willmore Park Located 6 km south of Edson, Willmore Park is a wilderness retreat with day-use and overnight camping areas, an extensive trail system, and scenic river access. It’s also home to Edson’s Bike Skills Park—one of the largest in Alberta—designed for beginner to advanced riders with a variety of natural and man-made features.

Outdoor Rinks & Multi-Use Spaces Even in warmer months, some of our outdoor rinks double as courts and community spaces.
  • Glenwood Outdoor Arena: Full boards, lights until 10:30 p.m., change facilities and washrooms.

  • Griffiths Park Outdoor Arena: Boards and lighting.

  • Westhaven & Tiffin Rinks: Community-run surfaces.

  • Squirrely Whirly Loop: Natural ice skating loop at Water Tower Park in winter; a great green space in summer.

Basketball, Volleyball & Courts

  • Griffiths Park: Two full basketball courts and sports fields.

  • Glenwood Park: Basketball, pickleball, ball diamond, and more—plus an accessible picnic area.

Vision Park With 10 well-maintained diamonds, Vision Park is one of Western Canada’s premier ball complexes and hosts many tournaments, league games, and events throughout the season.

Rotary Skateboard Park & Pump Track Located across from Centennial Park, these free-use areas are lit until 11:00 p.m. and welcome skateboarders and riders of all levels.

RCMP Centennial Park Featuring the Galloway Station Museum, this central space includes a pavilion, picnic areas, historic displays, and a playground. It’s also home to Eddie the Squirrel and a frequent site for local events.

Soccer Fields Located in the Parkland/Pine Grove School area, our seven developed pitches support community soccer and other recreational events. The fields were built through partnerships with the Rotary Club, Minor Soccer, and many volunteers.

Outdoor Fitness Equipment Installed in various parks and along some trails, these stations are free to use and designed for all fitness levels. Great for solo workouts or active time while kids play.

We encourage you to get outside this June and explore the many ways to stay active, connect, and enjoy our beautiful community.
