Response and Recovery Efforts Underway

Posted on

The immense amount of rain we had in a short timeframe, coupled with extreme winds, resulted in some flooding and power outages last night. Crews are continuing to work on cleanup and ensuring power is back on. Debris caused by the wind and rain clogged up catch basins, creating a majority of the issues we faced.

We understand some homes received flooding and the frustration that follows an event like this. We are currently in the process of assessing the damages and determining the next steps forward. To report flood damage to your home, call 780-723-4401 (ext 121). This info will be used to track problem areas and for communication moving forward. Please document everything and contact insurance as soon as possible.

There are currently a number of projects underway to help alleviate pressure on the water drainage systems and to reduce flooding potential. This includes the 10th Avenue and 54th Street Sanitary Upgrade projects at a cost of over $4 million. Council has also committed funding to a backflow preventor program in this year’s budget and extended the program to include sump pump installation.

We’ll be providing more information as investigations and damage assessments are complete in the coming days.
